government has an elected Mayor (2-yr term) who is
the administrative head of the city, and a board of
four elected Aldermen (2-yr terms), which is the
legislative branch of the city. Other popularly
elected officials are the school board members (4-yr
terms) and water & sewer commissioners (6-yr
terms). |

Elected
City Officials
Mayor
(Darrell Bryan) - The chief executive
officer oversees all aspects of city government and
all city officials, transacts business in the name of
the city, signs all contracts, may make pro tem
appointments to all city offices which have been
vacated, recommends measures for the consideration of
the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, vetoes decisions of
the Board of Mayor and Aldermen, and suspends city
officers as the need arises.
Board
of Aldermen - (W.T. Daniels, Ginny
Kidwell, Sarah Webster, Laraine King) - The general
governing board of the city, the Board of Mayor and
Alderman make all legally-binding decisions concerning
the establishment and enforcement of city ordinances,
assessment of property, levying of taxes, and the
overall welfare of the city and its inhabitants.
Water
Commission (Johnny Honeycutt, Brandon Hull, Joe Waggoner) - This commission
serves Greeneville as a water and sewer commission,
the responsibilities of which include the
establishing
water and sewer rates, issuing permits for sewer
connections, overseeing the building of sewers and
sewer connections and the installation of water lines
as they are needed, and the hiring and empowering of
necessary inspectors.
School
Board (Jerry Anderson, Kay Leonard,
Mark Patterson, Ray Smith, Craig Ogle) - It is the
responsibility of the School Board to employ well
qualified teachers for the Greeneville School System
and to prescribe all rules and regulations for the
conduct and management of city schools. |

Bureaucratic
Departments
Recorder
(Jim Warner) - Responsible for the
overall financial management of the town including
budgeting, accounting, collections, and disbursements.
Also supervises the preparation of statements and
reports of the town's financial affairs to officials
and the general public. Also serves as the town's
purchasing agent.
Building
Official (Jim Snyder) - Administers
and enforces zoning, building and other regulatory
codes.
Planning
(Lyn Ashburn) - Responsible for the
formulating, planning policies for vote by the
Greeneville Regional Planning Commission. Advises and
directs studies on annexation, zoning, and subdivision
regulations.
Environmental
(Debbie Smith) - Performs inspectional field
and office work involving the enforcement of municipal
ordinances, codes and regulations as part of the
general environmental health and sanitation programs.
City
Schools (Lyle Ailshie) - appointed by
the Board of Education to a three-year term. Oversees
all facets of the administration of Greeneville City
Schools.
Parks
and Recreation (Butch Patterson) -
appointed by Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Receives
advice from a 10-member advisory board also appointed
by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. Plans, organizes,
and directs the activities of municipal recreation
including playgrounds, recreation centers, swimming
pools and city-wide recreation events.
Library
(Madge Walker) - hired by the Library
Board which is, in turn, appointed by the Board of
Mayor and Aldermen. Plans, organizes, and administers
programs and procedures governing library services.
Streets
and Sanitation (Bob Bird) - performs
work in planning, directing and organizing the overall
activities of public works, including street
maintenance and storm water works.
Municipal
Solid Waste - administers the
collection of municipal solid waste both residential
and commercial.
Transfer
Station /Landfill (Dennis Wright) -
appointed by the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. the
solid Waste Advisory Board makes recommendations to
both town and county governments. Administers the
solid waste transfer station, professional engineering
services, demolition landfill and mulch processing
activities.
Roby
Fitzgerald Adult Center (Glenda
Blazer) - appointed by the Board of Mayor and
Aldermen. Directs, plans, and organizes activities for
the senior citizen center.
Greeneville
Housing Authority (Nancy
Fortner) - oversees and rents 325 units of public
housing within the corporate limits of Greeneville.
The Housing Authority is governed by five
commissioners appointed by the mayor to serve
staggered five-year terms. 638-3111

Services (Terry Cannon) - directs,
plans, and organizes the activities of the police
department. Performs administrative activities
including records and annual budget estimates.
Fire
Services (Mark Foulks) - plans,
directs, and controls the activities of the the fire
